So happy to share an update on our kitchen. We’ve been living here since July and we are finally at a good point that I’m happy to share! Like many homes, the kitchen is the heart of our home. We spend most of our time here cooking, dining, and sometimes even working – guilty! Let’s take a look at what it looked like before.
The original kitchen was move-in ready, it worked and everything was in decent condition but it just wasn’t my style. Though I still really love the original stove that came with the house. I didn’t want to have to live through the renovations if we could help it and I’m grateful we were able to renovate prior to moving. The layout stayed completely the same, though when we initially bought the house I had dreams of opening up the kitchen but it didn’t quite happen that way (perhaps for dream house number 2?). Since we weren’t able to open up the kitchen wall I really wanted the open shelving to give it a little more breathing room. We updated the floors to match the rest of the house, added a storage bench in the dining nook, and updated all the cabinets, countertops and appliances. Here are some photos of the progress. I really miss those light floors – this was pre-sealer!
We partnered with Fireclay Tile for the kitchen backsplash – we went with a 2″ hexagon in gypsum for a subtle touch of color. I love the modern hexagon shape and the matte finish. We actually tackled this install ourselves – anyone interested in a DIY post, on hexagon install? Let me know if you are – and I will share more! I wanted a unique pattern and a touch of color since the kitchen was mostly white – I wanted to add some warmth and I think the Fireclay Tile is the perfect touch!
The whole process took about 3-4 weeks, not including the waiting time for appliances and tiles. My recommendation is to purchase everything you need prior to starting demo so they have everything they need no waiting. Thanks for following my renovation process – let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.
