Last November, I moved out of my tiny Long Beach apartment into a new home with Y. I was really excited about sharing a place together and also thrilled to decorate a new space and get rid of some old pieces. When I moved into my Long Beach apartment, I purchased a lot of “temporary” furniture I thought I’d slowly replace over the years but never actually did.
After a month of searching for a new home, we found a place that we loved. That’s when the fun (or hard?!) part started– it was time to pick out furniture! Of course, one of the challenges we had was agreeing on a style. I wanted a modern bright white space, and Y preferred wood tones and a weathered look. However, there was one style we were both drawn to: mid-century modern. Everything we saw at Room & Board was perfect – the quality pieces were well-made and built to last. We fell in love with the Walnut Grove Cocktail table and made that our first apartment purchase.
I reached out to the Room & Board design team to help us complete the look of our space. (Room & Board offers free design services from their Design Associates in-store, over the phone or online!) Y and I agreed that the space should be warm and inviting with some bright white – mixed with wood and blue tones. We wanted the space to feel grown up and sophisticated but also casual and comfortable. Suzana, our Room & Board design consultant, took our ideas and provided some recommendations on how to create a space fit for two styles. After a little back and forth, here is the look she drew up for us.
I was a bit worried about the rug since it was much larger than my previous one, but it really helps bring the room together. We are so thrilled with how our space turned out! We are looking forward to dinners at our table for two and movie nights in the living room. Over the next few months, we hope to add more artwork and plants to the space.
