Big Sur is truly an awe inspiring place – the perfect place to unwind and unplug. If you live in Los Angeles or San Francisco or anywhere in between Big Sur makes for a great weekend getaway and for those not within an arms reach away put it on your list to visit. Big Sur is filled with stunning views of the coastal line and breathtaking hikes that fit every type of hiker. While I’ve been to Big Sur a few times there is still a lot that I haven’t explored. I put together a list of recommendations and included some suggestions I’ve received from trusted friends in the guide below!
Big Sur Bakery This is one of our go-to spots. They have some of the tastiest pastries and perfect lattes for your every morning needs. Order at the counter and grab a seat on the patio (inside seating is also available). They also serve lunch and dinner as well, though I haven’t personally tried either.
Nepenthe / Cafe Kevah Go here for some epic dining views. While we have dined here before the food wasn’t anything to remember – and rather pricey but the views are really epic. So grab a table and drink and hang out for the beautiful view.
Deetjens I’ve heard people rave about their brunch here so hoping to visit this next time!
Wild Coast Restaurant at Treebones Resort Another spot I’m hoping to try sometime. They have their own garden which they use for salad greens and vegetables on the menu and the restaurants compost is enjoyed by their two dozen chickens!
Kirk Creek Campgrounds We typically find ourselves camping when visiting Big Sur – this is our go-to spot but you have to book well in advance. The views from here are the best.
Big Sur Campgrounds and Cabins You can rent a cabin or a campsite here. This place is really family friendly with lots of activities for the kids. There is also a river you can rent inner tubes and swim in.
Big Sur Glamping New to camping? Enjoy a night of glamping at this luxury sized tent complete with a queen size bed.
Treebones Resort Want a small step above glamping? Get a Yurt! This also has a queen size bed but you’ll also have a sink with hot/cold running water and the restroom in a few minutes away. Hope to stay here sometime!
If camping or glamping isn’t in your books here are some swanky hotel options for you Glen Oaks, Ventana Inn, and Post Ranch Inn.
Andrew Molera State Park Lots of trails that lead to many beautiful things. Check the map at the entrance.
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Don’t miss Mcway Falls opposite of the park and from there you can take tons of trails deeper into the woods or to the coast. Also check out Pfeiffer Beach and watch the sunset here.
Sand Dollar Beach Trail The largest sandy beach in Big Sur. There is a bluff trail with beautiful views up and down the coast.
