DAY 05 // I fell in love with Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Located on the south eastern part of country – the lagoon formed after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. This was one of the places I was most excited about when researching Iceland, and it surely did not disappoint. As we drove towards the lagoon the land was dry and gravelly – yet we saw all these cars parked off to the side and realized there was definitely something to see, however we were still a short distance from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. We hopped out anyhow and saw the beautiful glaciers from a distance – what a stunning site.
You can take a boat ride at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon but we opted to skip this part – you can get pretty close to the icebergs without being on the boat so we didn’t think it was necessary. We were even able to see some seal swimming around from the shoreline.
Cross the road from the main lagoon area and you’ll be able to see the icebergs that started to melt and creep along the shore. Here you can walk right up to the icebergs!
