as i mentioned my holiday traditions aren’t so traditional – tomorrow, i’m kicking off #mykindofholiday – a two week trip with my sister to south america. i’m looking forward to our first ‘solo’ trip without our parents, exploring the city and of course some good food. but first i thought it would be fun to share with you all my packing essentials/tips. over the years i’ve gotten my packing method down and i always surprise my travel companions with how lite i pack, anyone remember my fun packing video from southeast asia?
fig. 01 no matter where you are going hot or cold – it’s always a good idea to pack a light jacket. weather is always a bit unpredictable and some places really love ac.
fig. 02 zip baggu’s are one of the best things for travel EVER. i use them for my shoes, small electronics, personal items etc – i keep 4 or 5 of these in my suitcase at all times. the small pouches help you stay organized so you aren’t digging out of a giant bag to find those small goodies.
fig. 03 of course you can’t leave home without your passport, i love this passport case because not only does it look sleek – it has a slim profile yet lots of pouches for your other cards and important travel documents.
fig. 04 when i travel i pretty much never ever check my luggage unless it’s beyond my control – so typically that means i’ve got one suitcase and a personal item which is my camera/laptop bag. because of this i never have an actual ‘purse’ – this is why i absolutely love this bag. it folds down and is completely flat, easy to pack but nice enough for me to tote around the city. i know the price seems a bit silly for a nylon bag, but it’s one of the best travel things i own.
fig. 05 this space saver is also another travel must – it has two sides, one for clean clothes the other for clothes that need to be cleaned. it helps compact your clothes – don’t ask my how but i lay everything flat and zip that bad boy up it’s a miracle how much stuff will fit into those space savers. i highly recommend them for any traveler.
fig. 06 i think i always travel with flip flops it’s not that i wear them around the city but in case you decide to go to the hotel pool or in those emergency cases where you don’t want to step in that bathroom without something between you and the floor.
fig. 07 i used to travel with a ton of toiletries but i’ve slimmed it down a lot – pretty much every hotel has shampoo and conditioner and while it might not be what you’re used to it will save a lot of room if you don’t pack your own. i love this human gear gotoob for liquid essentials – it keeps everything in the tube and no all over your stuff. my other two must haves 1. burts bees and one love organics skin saver – this stuff works wonders.
fig. 08 of course i never leave my house without a camera! most the times i just carry my my iphone – sometimes i take my dslr and thanks to target- i’ve got a new gopro for my south america trip. i’m looking forward to making some fun videos with this when i get back.
while i’m away i have a few fun post scheduled for you as well as a few guest popping in too! let me know if you have any packing tips for me before i head out.
