death valley was such a drastic contrast to sequoia as you can imagine. lots of trees and greenery to a whole lot of nothing, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. we visited bad water basin which is the lowest point in the us – the floor was filled with salt (i may or may not have picked up a piece to try…) it felt a lot like walking in icy cold snow a crunch with every step. there is actually a small pool of water note how it got it’s ‘bad water’ name. i like how the salt crust forms hexagonal honeycomb shapes all around the area.
right outside of death valley we also visited manzanar. manzanar is one of ten camps where japanesse american were incarcerated during world war II. it has a small museum that was really well designed and informative – the view at the manzanar monument has a beautiful view of mt whitney (the tallest point in the us). definitely worth a quick trip over.
